Decompression Technique

What is the Decompression Technique?
The decompression technique is an FDA approved non-surgical traction therapy for pain relief related to spinal disc herniations. Spinal decompression therapy is different from conventional spinal traction because it alternates between stretching and relaxation. The relaxation stage tricks your body into staying relaxed, which makes for a more effective treatment. Spinal decompression therapy utilizes a special table. The table works by putting the disc under negative pressure, causing a “vacuum effect” within it. The vacuum effect then causes the material protruding from the herniated disc to retract back into place. This vacuum effect also stimulates a process called imbibition, which allows nutrients to flow into the injured disc triggering a healing response. Cervical, thoracic, and lumbar disc herniations can all be treated with this type of therapy.

Who Benefits from Decompression?
Adults who suffer from disc herniations or protrusions, spinal stenosis, sciatica, radiculopathy, or pinched nerves.

What are the Treatment Sessions and Results Like?
Treatment sessions range from 15-30 minutes and follow a treatment plan of 2-3 times a week. The success rate is similar to surgical results, and decompression therapy has been proven to be successful in reducing pain related to herniated discs. Our treatment sessions are specifically tailored protocols to meet each patient’s plan of care successfully.
