What is a Trigger Point Injection (TPI)?
TPIs are used to treat pain in muscle groups, especially those in the neck, mid-back, and lower back that contain trigger points, or knots that form when a muscle does not relax. During the TPI procedure, a small needle is inserted into the patient’s trigger point. The injection typically contains a local anesthetic such as Bupivacaine/ Lidocaine, which is the same drug used to numb your mouth during dental procedures. With TPI injections, the specific trigger point can be made inactive, and the pain is often alleviated. In many cases, a brief course of treatment usually results in sustained relief. Injections are given in our office and typically take just a few minutes of your time. You can also get the most out of your time with trigger point injections since several sites may be injected in one visit.

What are PRP injections?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections contain your own natural blood platelets and are used to reduce chronic pain and joint dysfunction. After drawing a sample of your blood, the sample is centrifuged, or separated and concentrated, to extract the platelets that already exist within your blood. These platelets are injected back into your body at the determined site. PRP contains necessary wound healing protein factors such as bioactive proteins called growth factors that can speed up your natural healing response. PRP injections are also shown to provide additional nutrients to injured tissues to relieve pain and inflammation. For those looking for a more natural approach, we can use Traumeel, which is a homeopathic solution and is made up of a blend of botanical and mineral extracts.

What is a Cortisone/ Steroid Injection?
Cortisone steroid injections have been proven to help relieve pain and inflammation in a specific area of your body. They are most commonly injected into the joints, such as your shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, and knee. Cortisone shots may cause a temporary flare-up of pain and inflammation that may last up to 48 hours after the initial injection. After that, your pain and inflammation should decrease, and relief may last up to several months.

What is a Ketorolac/ Toradol Injection?
Ketorolac is used for the short-term treatment of moderate to severe pain and acute inflammation. Reducing acute pain allows you to recover more comfortably so that you can return to your normal daily activities sooner. This medication is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is used to block your body’s production of natural substances that cause inflammation
