Dry Needling

League City Spine & Sports Medicine

What is dry needling?

Dry needling is a specialized treatment technique that involves inserting thin, sterile needles into specific muscles, tendons, and fascial points. This process triggers a direct physiological response in the body, stimulating its natural healing mechanisms and promoting the reduction of pain and muscle tightness.

In addition to the needles, muscle stimulation may be applied to activate underused muscles or target muscles in spasm. This combination of dry needling and muscle stimulation helps enhance muscle function and relieves tension. All of our chiropractors have completed specialized training through Structure and Function courses to ensure safe and effective treatment.

Benefits of Dry Needling

Dry needling can provide a wide range of benefits, including:

  • Faster healing for acute injuries
  • Stimulation of healing in chronic injuries
  • Relief from muscle spasms and tightness
  • Increased range of motion
  • Reduction in referred or radiating pain (pain that travels along nerves)

Conditions Treated with Dry Needling

Dry needling is effective for treating a variety of conditions, including:

  • Soft tissue injuries (e.g., sprains, strains)
  • Chronic pain conditions
  • Radicular pain (pain radiating from nerve roots)
  • Bony contusions
  • Headaches (including tension and migraine)
  • Muscle tightness and dysfunction

Dry needling is an effective method for relieving pain and promoting recovery in both acute and chronic conditions. Each treatment is preceded by a thorough patient history and exam to ensure the safety and appropriateness of the therapy for your condition.
